I am so devastated. They never should have said yes to putting the surf comp on in 35 knot conditions. Just no. Brett was going out to surf in the comp, even when we had begged him not to. He took a barrel and fell off. Myself and my other best friend Jack thought he was knocked out, and drowned. But Brett is a very strong swimmer and could have got up to air. Call it suicide. After 30 seconds of Brett being under, Jack and I dived in, but the officials held us back. Brett never came up. Again, They never should have said yes.
